About Sergeant Murray:


Clell earned his Bachelors of Applied Arts and Sciences in Criminal Justice at Tarleton State University. He has served the last 27 years with the University Police Department. Previous he was with the Erath County Sheriff’s office. He has many talents. As Firearms Instructor, he conducted quarterly Departmental Firearms Qualifications for 21 officers. For the past 24 years, Clell has trained his fellow officers in Firearms Tactics and Qualifications with both pistols and rifles. 

In the early 1990’s Erath County had a Special Weapons and Tactics (SWAT) Team under the direction of Stephenville Police Chief Jim Wade, 

Erath County Sheriff David

 Coffee, and Tarleton Police Chief Robert Hooper. This team was known as the Multi-Jurisdictional Special Response Team. As an assigned member of this team, Clell helped in handling all forced entry Search Warrants, Felony Arrests, and Hostage Situations.

His education and training includes Master Peace Officer Certification, Hazardous Materials (HAZMAT) Technician, Firearms Instructor Proficiency Certification, and Police Instructor Certification. Clell also holds a number of specialized certifications such as Civilian Response to Active Shooter Event (CRASE) Instructor, National Rifle Association (NRA) Patrol Rifle Instructor, Pressure Point Control Tactics (PPCT) Defensive Tactics Instructor, and Advanced Law Enforcement Rapid Response Training (ALERRT) Instructor and Train the Trainer Certifications. And he is a certified Armorer for Glock, Springfield, and AR-15, meaning he can calibrate and repair any of their pistols or rifles.
